Tuan Vu was born in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and lives and works in Montreal. A self-taught artist, he pursues a multidisciplinary practice that includes painting, drawing, and photography. His work explores colour as a means of conveying emotion and narrative, often depicting women within lush, dreamlike landscapes. Drawing inspiration from Les Nabis, Odilon Redon, and the flattened spatial language of traditional Japanese woodblock prints, Vu layers colour directly onto the canvas to create richly textured compositions in which beauty, imperfection, and spontaneity coexist. He attended the Université de Montréal in 2016–17 and received a BA from the Université de Sherbrooke in 1995. Vu received Canada Council for the Arts grants in 2023 and 2024 and was awarded the Luxembourg Art Prize in 2021. His work has been exhibited at Harper’s, New York; Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery, London; Duran Mashaal Gallery, Montreal; Simard Bilodeau Contemporary, Los Angeles; Make Room, Los Angeles; Patel Brown, Montreal; Art SG, Singapore; and The Armory Show, New York.
