Perhaps in homage to the stability his mother and sisters provided during his childhood, the female figures in his paintings are tranquil oases within the tumultuous natural settings in which they reside.

Large-scale silk paintings in muted sunset hues, alongside handmade flowers, dried arrangements, preserved insects, and suspended objects, transform the gallery into a place of gathering and refuge.

Slip, Stitch | Summer Showcase

Slip, Stitch gathers artists whose practices embrace acts of joining, layering, and grafting. Slip holds both material and gesture: liquid clay, a plant cutting, a movement between states, something that binds even as it shifts and transforms. Paired with stitch, it suggests forms of repair and connection that are never fixed, always in process.

Shellie ZHANG | SURFACE TENSION

The three works in Surface Tension explore Shellie Zhang’s research into the interconnections between cinematic surfaces, ornamentation, and skin. Drawing on symbols from the natural world, Zhang examines how decorative surfaces— laden with anxieties around gender, race, and sexuality beneath their ornate aesthetics—carry the potential to transform and metamorphose from their encrusted histories.

BALINT ZSAKO | TANGO

Zsako sees these flowers as stand-ins for human bodies engaged in scenes of love, friendship, isolation and even violence. Very much like the interactions between people in a busy city, the flowers are compelling because they mirror the mutability and complexity of everyday human relationships.

Marigold Santos | Epiphytic Elucidations

The title Epiphytic Elucidations gestures toward modes of existence rooted in interdependence. Neither parasitic nor extractive, epiphytes exist through balance and proximity. Like epiphytic plants that grow alongside others for support, the works suggest that contemporary identities and diasporic ways of living are sustained through ancestral knowledge and labour.
